  The Hart Historic District celebrates a Heritage festival every Labor Day Weekend while the National Asparagus Festival, held every year, rotates between Hart and Shelby during the month of June.The Oceana County Fair is held in Hart during the month of August and the fairgrounds is host to many miscellaneous events throughout the year.

  Hart and the surrounding area are home to many outdoor activities. For walking, biking, snowmobile enthusiasts there is the Hart-Montague Bicycle Trail State Park. This trail runs from Hart and goes through the communities of Mears, Shelby, New Era, Rothbury and ends in Montague. The Silver Lake sand dunes, as well as Lake Michigan, are only 15 minutes away with camping, hiking, boating, swimming activities available.John Gurney Park offers camping, boating, and swimming facilities as well as a baseball and soccer field. Liberty Park, located behind City Hall, was recently upgraded with new playground equipment and child-safe footing material. Veteran’s Park, on Hart Lake, honors the men and women of Oceana County who have served or are serving our country.

  There is wonderful historic district in the City of Hart where the Hart Heritage Days are held. It features very expansive collections including fossils, arrowheads and tools, a one room school house, a church, log cabin and more. Hart is also home to the Oceana County Historical and Genealogical Society. The Society is housed in the Chadwick-Munger House, built in 1892 by Dr. H.J. Chadwick. The three story house has a portico, turret and ballroom but is not open for touring. It does have a cemetery headstone census, microfilmed newspapers plus it is used by the society and visitors to do research of historic records. The Society is open on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information call 231-873-2600.

  The Hart Area Public Library, located at 415 State St. next to City Hall is open Monday and Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A Children’s Story Hour is held during the late fall until early spring. The exact date and time are posted on the Cable channel on TV. The library also has numerous displays of works done by local artists and craftspersons throughout the year, as well as an annual Used Book Sale and many other activities that the community is encouraged to come and enjoy.
